Science And Technology, Critical To National Development—Deputy Minister

Mr Andy Appiah-Kubi, Deputy Minister for Railways Development, has stressed the need for the nation to place greater emphasis on the teaching and training of science and technology for the youth to make them fit appropriately into the global superhighway.

He said science and technology were critical to sustainable national development and there was the need for the youth to be equipped with skills and expertise that would help them to make effective use of modern scientific and technological tools to transform society.

Mr Appiah-Kubi who is also the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, made the call when he donated 40 computers and accessories to the Oweriman Senior High School at Domeabra in the constituency.

The occasion coincided with the cutting of the sod to commence the construction of a modern boys’ dormitory block for the school.

The block is to ease the acute congestion in the school following the introduction of the free senior high school policy and the subsequent increase in enrolment in the school.

Mr Appiah-Kubi pointed out that, science and technology was the pivot of production, economics, research as well as social emancipation in every society.

It was therefore important to encourage more people to acquire skills in that area to speed up national development goals.

He charged the students to make effective use of the computers to ensure that they were well-equipped before they left the school.

Mr Christian Kwadwo Atta, Headmaster of the school praised the MP for the support and pledged to put the computers into effective use to achieve the desired results.

He appealed to other stakeholders to support the school to help improve on teaching and learning.
