The mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Osei Assibey has stressed the need for the residents of Kumasi to put measures in place to transform the declining state of the city’s environment, so that the former name of the city as “Garden City” could be restored.

He said the environ-mental position of the city is very serious to such an extent that the only remedy to retaining the former glory of Kumasi as the Garden City is to ensure all “hands on board” to realize the vision.

The mayor made the call during an exercise dubbed “Operation Rebrand Kumasi” coupled with tree planting exercise at some vantage areas in Kumasi including Parakuo Estate and Atasemanso to enhance the beautification of their environment.

On his part, Nana Owusu Mensah Barima III, Chief of Atasemanso assured the mayor of his unflinching support and co-operation to ensure that the “Operation Rebrand Kumasi” concept becomes successful especially within his area through periodic communal labour to plant trees, clean up exercise among others to sustain the environment.
