FC ready to contribute towards national development agenda- CEO

The Forestry Commission (FC) has indicated its preparedness to contribute immensely towards the national development agenda through strengthening the institutional and regulatory framework as well as rigorously protecting forests and wildlife resources.

In  his  speech at the  Commission’s  2017 award ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer( CEO) of  the Forestry Commission, Mr Kwadjo Owusu  Afriyie, said his  outfit  was poised  to contribute  to the national  development agenda  by ensuring sustainable forest and wildlife resources management ,surveying , redemacation,  replanting  of  major farms  and  destruction of illegal farms.

According to Mr Afriyie, the commission would also enhance law enforcement within forest reserves and wildlife protected areas as well as improve forest resource management through community participation and promoting natural resource and environmental sustainability through key stakeholder involvement.

“We will implement donor projects and programmes” and “enhance capacity to adapt to climate change impact including the implementation of the Ghana REDD+ strategy.”  The CEO added.

He told  the audience  at the  packed  auditorium   of  the Forestry  Commission that: “ must  be  realized that achieving set goals for  the  commission could be daunting,  but they are not Insurmountable .”    He pointed  out that  “the current state of our Forest  and wild life resources  does not allow any compromise  for this priorities  and the situation  also  presents  opportunities whereby our development partners  are ready to assist us.  If only we are prepared to work. “

Mr Afriyie continued,  “I  will  theretofore  like  to entreat  every one in this  great  organization to shun all negative culture and  practice that contradict the realization of the commission’s  goals.”

Prior  to  his  presentation  at the  commission’s  Auditorium,  the CEO  and  the his Deputy  Mr John Allotey had  an  informal  interaction with  the media.  The meeting was to discuss the year under review and the way forward for the year 2018.
