Affirmative action: Let’s go beyond the talk and get the bill introduced in parliament – Minority leader

Minority leader has said its time we go beyond the talk and ensure that the bill on affirmative action is brought before parliament for consideration.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, the leader said,

“…we should go beyond the talk and get the bill introduced in this house because we have to fight using policy and iatrical dominance of Ghanaian society and the way that has reduced many women to the background.”

Affirmative Action is a set of needed actions designed to correct the history of systematic discrimination and exclusion of women in the decision-making process.

The Bill, when passed, would go a long way to ensure the achievement of gender equality in political, social, economic, and educational spheres in society.

The Draft Bill (2018), yet to be submitted to Cabinet, had 36 clauses and six schedules to achieve targets, following evaluation, and had a memorandum which outlined in detail, its purpose and design and provides detailed background and justification.
