President John Dramani Mahama has approved a two-year extension for Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following a recommendation by the Police Council, Citi News has gathered.
The extension allows IGP Yohuno to continue leading the Ghana Police Service as it deepens ongoing reforms and strengthens national security operations.
Sources indicate the move is aimed at ensuring continuity in security management and sustaining progress achieved under his leadership.

Appointed earlier this year, IGP Yohuno has been credited with enhancing police visibility, improving crime response strategies, and advancing community-policing initiatives across the country. He was originally expected to retire in December 2025.
While the confirmation has not yet been officially announced, the extension will enable IGP Yohuno to continue overseeing key security programmes, modernisation efforts, and personnel development within the service.
