As part of efforts to improve and strengthen its capacities in new media, the Livelihood and Environment Ghana (LEG) recently organised a two-day capacity-building workshop on digital communication for five of its staff members and 23 community volunteers.
The capacity building exercise was held on theme, “Equipping LEG’s Staff and Volunteers with Digital Communication Skills for Improved Advocacy.”
The training, which took place on January 6-7th, provided invaluable knowledge and practical skills in areas such as crafting engaging social media content, communicating effectively, and building impactful online campaigns.

Participants learned to harness the power of platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube to connect with wider audiences, update management with happenings in their various communities, and effectively advocate for environmental sustainability and community rights.
Speaking to Public Agenda in an interview after the meeting, the Executive Director of LEG, Mr Richard Adjei- Poku noted that in an increasingly digital world, effective advocacy and communication are essential for organizations like Livelihood and Environment Ghana (LEG) to amplify its impact.
He indicated that despite LEG’s two decades of dedicated work in environmental sustainability, community rights, and minerals governance, staff and volunteers have faced challenges in utilizing digital tools to connect with wider audiences, share updates, and drive impactful advocacy campaigns.
He maintained that without these skills, the organization risks limited reach and reduced effectiveness in addressing the pressing issues affecting communities in Ghana.
The project was funded by Oxfam Novib under the Fair for All and Mutual Capacity Strengthening Project.

The Staff members and volunteers said they were now better equipped with the digital skills to perform their duties.
LEG is a research and advocacy not-for-profit and non-governmental organization
established in 2004 to promote Community rights, environmental justice, sustainable livelihood for marginalized persons and promotes active citizenship in governance.
LEG also engages with duty bearers on issues around minerals governance and submits policy proposals to policy makers.
