The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has encouraged government to support more girls in Tech Education.
A statement issued in Accra by the Coalition noted, “GNECC wishes to use this opportunity to reiterate our calls on the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Communication and other relevant institutions to take measures to ensure basic and secondary schools across the country are equitably equipped with the appropriate tools, materials and teachers to facilitate the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).”
The statement observed that generally, achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the country is low due to lack of functioning science laboratories in our basic and secondary schools with majority of schools currently lacking computer learning centres and instructors.

The statement was issued at the back of a success chalked by Mamfe Methodist Girls Robotics Team at the 2019 World Robofest Championship competition held at Lawrence Technological University, Michigan, United States on May 18, 2019.
The GNECC used the statementto congratulate the all-girls Mamfe Methodist Senior High School robotics team on winning the championship.
“Mamfe Methodist Girls Robotics Team as a Model we congratulate the all-girls Mamfe Methodist Senior High School robotics team for winning the 2019 World Robofest Championship competition.
“The determination, perseverance and sense of discipline of the girls earned the team the coveted trophy beating countries like India, South Korea, United States, South Africa among others.
“This feat, however, proves that given the appropriate support and resources, a Ghanaian child can compete anywhere in the world and excel.”
The statement mentioned that the Girls Robotics teams from Mamfe Methodist Senior High have demonstrated that it does not matter where the child is, if that child is properly guided and given the right opportunities she or he will manifest their full potential.
“GNECC also commends the teachers and parents for the selfless support they provided to enable the Girls Robotic team participate in the competition held in the USA. Without the active involvement of these two key stakeholders the girls would not have made it to the competition, “it added.
