The impunity with which criminals operate in Ghana suggests a lack of the right leadership for the country, Brigadier Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, has said.

By leadership, he clarified that he was not only talking about those in political positions but leaders outside politics, too.

These leaders, he said, have failed to ensure that the right things are done by some of the citizens.

He explained on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday, 21 June 2019 that some of the youth are engaged in criminal activities such as land guard activities because they have no one to motivate and guide them to use their strength in profitable ventures such as farming.

“Sometimes, I sit back and weep for Ghana when I see things happening this way. Nobody wants to work because there is no leadership. People are doing all manner of things and getting away with them because there is no leadership”, the retired military officer bemoaned.

“Our leaders don’t tell the truth to the people and, so, they feel disappointed all the time and, therefore, resort to all manner of things. Our leaders must tell the truth and live by the truth.

“We need thinkers and strategists as a country. Our education does not teach us how to think.”
