In a bid to ensure improvement in school management at the pre-tertiary education level, the Central Regional Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has organized a 2-day capacity building workshop for assistant heads in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) in the Central Region of the Republic of Ghana.
The workshop was attended by assistant heads administration and domestic; and assistant heads academic on Tuesday, October 27, and Wednesday, October28, 2020 respectively, at the Canterbury Hall of Adisadel College, Cape Coast.
Mr. Godfred Mensah, who is the head of the Human Resourced Division of the central regional education directorate stated that the purpose for the workshop was to upgrade the knowledge and skills of assistant heads on educational matters so that they can collectively work together to achieve educational goals and assist their heads to deliver. To this end, Mr. Mensah said it has become imperative to share with assistant heads, current educational issues.
In her welcome address, the Central Regional Director for Education, Mrs. Martha Owusu Agyeman, said that the capacity building workshop has seen the light of day due to the commitment of the Central Regional Management of the GES to provide sustainable and effective management as well as delivery of quality pre-tertiary education which meets national goals. She commended assistant heads for the critical roles they played, that enabled the 2020 batch of final year SHS and SHTS students to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates successfully.
Mrs. Agyeman further admonished participants of the capacity building workshop to take keen interest in the various activities outshined for the workshop and ask questions to enable participants to be fully abreast with current trends in educational issues to improve their skills and knowledge of school management and related issues. She was hopeful that the workshop will be a success as it is the first workshop the regional education office has organized for assistant heads since she was posted to the Central Region as regional director of education in Novemember, 2019.
The resource persons for the workshop included officers from the Central Regional Education Office namely. Mr. Godred Mensah (Regional Humanesource Manager). Mr. Timothy Terry Tweneboah (Regional Internal Auditor) and Mr. Emmanuel Osei Amponsah (Regional Accountant). Mr Richard Arthur Payne, the Central Regional Coordinator for both Science Technology Mathematics and Innovation Education, and SHS was also in attendance.
