Sabon -Zongo Inter-Area Football competition ends

A two- day football competition dubbed ,  Sabon –Zongo Inter Area Football Competition  has ended at Nsawam  in the Eastern  Region with a call on zongo communities to  eschew violence and ensure peaceful coexistence among their neighbours.

The gala competition which was organized by the Chief Abdul MajidYakubu of Sabon- Zongo, Nsawam   and his able lieutenants Galadima Alhassan Suleman and Waziri Alyasawu Osman, coincided with the Easter festivies, a timing that was meant to get the youth who are working out of town to be part of the competition and get them to understand the importance of unity.

Four teams participated in the competition, they included, Italia XI, Gambabis XI, Opanyin XI and Kpalongo XI.

The keenly contested gala was ultimately won by Kpalongo XI when they beat Italia XI by two goals to nil in the grand finale.

The winner took home a trophy and a football, while the second placed team was presented with a football.

Speaking to Sporting Agenda after what was described by spectators as a very successful competition, The Chief of Sabon- zongo, Mallam Abdul Majid Yakubu expressed appreciation to all the teams for honoring the invitation to participate in the social event.

According to Chief Majid, he was particularly elated by the enthusiasm and the discipline exhibited by the teams throughout the competition.

For him, time has come for people residing in the various zongo communities to embrace peace and leave in harmony with others.

He told Sporting Agenda that the competition was put together as a way of mobilizing the youth to support his vision of developing the sabon zongo community.

He called on other Zongo communities to emulate his gesture in order to propel unity and development in their localities.

According to him, all the  players who took part the  competition were  natives of  the Sabon -Zongo, pointing out that in subsequent editions of  the completion, scouts would  be invited  to recruit  players who would exhibit good football artistry, skills and techniques to play in some of  the major clubs within or outside the country.

The Football Association Chairman of the Nsawam -Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly,Mr Adam Sahmudeen Nurudeen, touted the abundance of football talents in the municipality and called for persons interested in investing in young and talented footballers not to look else as they can be found in Nsawam- Adoagyiri.

Mr Nurudeen who was the coordinator of the competition was optimistic that football in the municipality will continue to improve under his leadership. He commended the chiefs for organizing such competition and encouraged other communities to do same as he  is  always available to assist them.
