A former Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Catherine
Abelema Afeku has been elected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary
candidate for the constituency in the 2024 general elections
.

Over the weekend, the NPP conducted its parliamentary primaries in the
orphan constituency, during which the former Minister for Tourism was elected
as the candidate for the party in the 2024 polls.

The former MP polled 323 votes to defeat her only challenger, Justice Kangah
who polled 282.

The total number of votes cast was 605 two rejected and the total turn-out
was 607.

It would be recalled that the Parliamentary primaries for the
Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira New Patriotic Party (NPP) originally to take place on
December 2, 2023, were canceled owing to a disagreement over the polling
centre.

The event was therefore rescheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2023, after a
crunch closed-door meeting between the NPP’s Western Regional executives, the
Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituency executives and the two parliamentary
candidate hopefuls for the constituency.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that the voting would take place at
three centers within the constituency.

Speaking to the media after her victory, Catherine Afeku was optimistic that
the NPP would win back the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira parliamentary seat from the
NDC.

She said it was unfortunate that we lost the parliamentary seat in 2020,
adding, that she believes strongly that with her track record in the area and
with a united front, they will recapture the seat.

“We should all come together because with unity I am sure we will
wrestle the seat from the NDC MP and I believe it is something that is very
doable,” she added

He also expressed her gratitude to the delegates, party members, and
sympathizers of the ruling NPP for their unflinching support and confidence
reposed in her for her resounding victory
