Tema Community 25 residents hand over ultra-modern Police Station to IGP

The Residents Association of Tema Community 25 on Thursday, May 23, 2019 handed over a newly constructed ultra-modern Police Station to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at a grand ceremony held at the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

 

The beautifully constructed edifice was officially handed over to the police administration in a bid to beef up security in the community and beyond.

The Project was funded by the Community 25 Residents Association under the able Chairmanship of Mr Bagnaba Van-Gogh as their contribution to support the creation of safe and secure community.

The facility, which would serve residents and the business community within the area has a Charge Office, Station Officer’s office, Armoury, Exhibit room, washrooms, Female cell, juvenile and male cell all fitted with ensuite washroom, Interrogation rooms, CID Office, Conference room, Commander Washrooms, Control office for CCTV and Drone operation, Commander Office and charge office.

 

Addressing the gathering during the commissioning of the facility, the Inspector General of Police, David Asante – Appeatu expressed his gratitude to the Community 25 Residents Association for putting up such magnificent structure to assist in fighting crime.

 

The IGP indicated that such gestures were well appreciated by the Police and called on others to assist the Police to ensure law and order.

 

According to him the support of the public to fight crime is critical to the police administration’s transformational agenda.

While commending the residents for putting their resources together to fund the project, he     appealed for continuous support in terms of logistics, stressing that development cannot take place in an insecure environment.

 

The IGP told the gathering, “I am not only delighted by the construction of such a beautiful edifice, but excited about the role that this facility will play in reducing crime in an area which was vast for effective coverage by the kpone police district.”

 

He advised the police officers in the area to offer the best of services for residents to have confidence, adding that “I expect that officers will endeavor to uphold the emerging strong Maintenance culture of the service.”

 

On his part, Mr Bagnaba Van Gogh, Chairman of the Community 25 Residents Association, noted that members of the Community consider security as a topmost priority, thus, it was not too difficult in proposing to them to consider putting up a facility to house the police command in the community.

Mr Van Gogh pointed out that although it was not easy raising the required funds to put up the Police Station, the Association was determined to complete the project in a record time.

He said the commissioning of this Ultra- modern police station would not only enhance the security of the residents, but would also be of services to some financial institutions, industries and above all the protection of lives and properties.

 

“The socio economic benefits which will be derived from a well secured environment is countless, thus, this facility in a nutshell will serve that purpose,” he added

Mr Van- Gogh did not forget to aknowledge the contributions made by some corporate entities and institution towards the construction of the Facility.

 

He mentioned that the IGP and his technical team have been of immense help to the Association and hoped that the relationship would further be enhanced with the police presence in the community.

 

“We are very much delighted that after almost six years, through the contributions of members of our community and some corporate entities, we have been able to achieve our objectives by completing this facility.” Mr Van Gogh stated.

 

The well-organized event which was interspersed with music from the Police band was chaired the Chief of Kpone-Nmlisakpo traditional council, Nii Tetteh Ogli II.

The event also brought together the top hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service including: Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DCOP Mr. Edward Akrofi Johnson, the Tema Regional Police Commander and DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the Tema Regional Police PRO.
